Members of EAPAN operate according to the EAPAN Code of Conduct, which reads as follows:

As a self-ascribed member of the EAPAN, the information and services I provide must be of the highest quality and reliability. I, the undersigned, consequently commit myself –

  1. To conduct my professional activities with integrity, honesty and free from misrepresentation or deliberate bias and to be independent and objective;
  2. To conduct my professional activities only in subject areas in which I have competence through education training or experience. I will engage or participate with other professionals in subject areas where I am less competent.
  3. To take care that my professional activities promote sustainable and equitable actions as well as a holistic approach to environmental assessment.
  4. To check that all policies, plans, activities or projects with which I am involved are consistent with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.
  5. To refuse to provide professional services whenever I am required to bias the analysis or omit or distort facts in order to arrive at a predetermined finding or result.
  6. To disclose to employers and clients and in all written reports, any personal or financial interest that could reasonably raise concerns as to a possible conflict of interest and, consequently, refuse to provide professional services whenever I have a vested interest in any policy, programme, plan or project.
  7. To strive to continually improve my professional knowledge and skills and to stay current with new development in environmental assessment and my associated field(s) of competence.
  8. To conduct my work in accordance with the objectives, values, professional responsibilities and Rules of Professional Conduct of the Association as well as the provisions of the Constitution when  working beyond the borders of Namibia; provided that if there are recognised standards of professional conduct in such a country, I shall also adhere to those standards.
  9. To acknowledge the sources I have used in my analysis and the preparation of reports and not to commit plagiarism.
  10. When presenting my services and that of my firm’s history, experience and resources, to refrain from using self-laudatory language, claiming competence for my firm in any field of environmental assessment in which a member of the firm is not suitably qualified, general or misleading statements and to clearly state the specific involvement of the firm in any project referred to and give due recognition to other participating parties and associates concerned.
  11. To refrain from acting, directly or indirectly, in such a manner as to injure or attempt to injure the professional reputation, prospects or business of another member, provided that this rule shall not be  taken as prohibiting expression of technical opinion on behalf of my client in the course of any enquiry, nor of reporting the misconduct of another member to a relevant competent body which has laid down its rules of conduct.
  12. To accept that my name will be removed from the list of self-ascribed professional members of EAPAN should I be found to be in breach of this code by a disciplinary task-group constituted by the EAPAN Executive Committee to consider any complaint lodged against my professional conduct.
  13. To uphold the objectives, values, professional responsibilities and Rules of Professional Conduct of the Association.
  14. To adhere to and comply with as far as is applicable to the provisions of the Constitution.
